About Football

Ames High Football is led by Brian Sauser, who just finished his first season in charge of the Little Cyclone program. In year one, the Little Cyclones finished 19th in the IHSAA 5A RPI ratings, just one win removed from the final 16-team playoff field. In 2022, the Little Cyclones will play the second-year of a home-and-home schedule, hosting Marshalltown, Des Moines East, Council Bluffs Lincoln, Dowling Catholic, and Johnston.

New School Record

Jalen Lueth broke an eight-year old school record in the Little Cyclones game against Des Moines Lincoln: recording 14 receptions (tied for school record) for 261 receiving yards (new school record).

Top State Passer

The Little Cyclones featured the top passer in the state in junior Dallas Sauser: leading the 5A field in passing completions and passing yards, as well as top-5 marks in passing touchdowns and overall individual offense.

Perfect Record

Senior kicker Mario Napolitano recorded a perfect 24-of-24 in PATs and 3-of-3 on field goal attempts, including a season-long of 42 yards at Council Bluffs Lincoln.

Senior Corey Phillips finished the regular season third in 5A in receptions with 51.
